DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF GOAT CART: |
In order to assess draft ability of Indian goat breeds, a light weight goat cart was designed and fabricated by Dr. P.K.
Sahoo, Senior Scientist (Agric. Engg.). Its use was based on the fact that mountain goats were used for draft purpose in
hilly regions of the country. A Jakhrana buck was used to pull the cart which was made up of light weight material with
pneumatic tyres. The height of the hitch point was adjustable. Cart is useful for a person to joy ride. Additionally with
slight modifications, feed and fodders can also be transported across the livestock units in farm
premises. |

Seminar ON MONSOON HERBAGE Sponsored by ISSGPU |
A National Seminar on “Conservation, Processing and Utilization of Monsoon Herbage for Augmenting Animal Production” was
organized by Arid Region Campus of CSWRI from 17-18 December 2005 at Bikaner. The following recommendations emerged from the
different Technical Sessions. 1. Problematic lands like cultivable waste lands orans/ gochars, ravines, sloppy degraded
lands, salt affected lands are potential for improving forage availability by adopting advanced soil and water conservation
practices like contour bunding and vegetative barrier. Agro-forestry systems (three tier systems) should also be adopted for
improving availability of biomass from natural rangelands through grasses (annual and perennial), legumes, browse shrubs,
bushes and trees. |
